The
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) discontinued it's radon professional
proficiency program in 1998. At that time, standards were developed for
other non-Federal radon proficiency programs that list or certify radon
measurement, mitigation service providers and/or analytical service
providers (available as an Adobe Acrobat
PDF
file,
MS
Word document; and as a
WordPerfect document).
The agencies
listed below meet the EPA guidelines for developing a certification program.
It is highly recommended that anyone that performs radon measurement and/or
mitigation work within North Carolina be certified by at least one of these
agencies.

The National Radon Safety
Board (NRSB) seeks to encourage the highest
standards of practice and integrity in radon services through the
development of independent standards and procedures for certifying,
approving and accrediting radon testers, mitigators, measurement devices,
chambers and laboratories. It is an independent, nonprofit organization
modeled on the American Board of Health Physics and is governed by a
Certification Panel representing different facets of the radon industry,
home inspectors, state governments, and consumer interests.
The National
Radon Safety Board (NRSB) certification program offers independent
certification, accreditation, and approval for five categories of radon
service providers:
Certification for Radon Measurement Technicians and Specialists
Certification for Radon Remediation
Technicians and Specialists
Accreditation for Radon Laboratories
Accreditation for Radon Chambers
Approval for Radon Measurement Devices
