Finding a Certified Radon Service Professional

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) discontinued it's radon professional proficiency program in 1998. At that time, standards were developed for other non-Federal radon proficiency programs that list or certify radon measurement, mitigation service providers and/or analytical service providers (available as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file, MS Word document; and as a WordPerfect document).

The agencies listed below meet the EPA guidelines for developing a certification program. It is highly recommended that anyone that performs radon measurement and/or mitigation work within North Carolina be certified by at least one of these agencies.

The National Environmental Health Association has a well-earned reputation of credentialing environmental health professionals since 1937. NEHA has over 5,000 members (often local health officials) in virtually all counties within the U.S. This network can assist in efforts of grassroots outreach and enhance the value of radon certifications on local levels. Combined with cooperative efforts from national real estate, home inspection, and building associations the NEHA National Radon Proficiency Program will strengthen and grow.
